Availability is indicative, not proof. Verify with each platform before registering.
How do I check if a name is available?
- Enter the exact brand name or username you want to use in the checker.
- Compare domain, social media and developer results. Treat unknown results as unverified and open those platforms to check manually.
- Confirm the name and any price directly with the registrar or platform before registering. Checking a name does not reserve it.
What does NameClaim check?
The shared checker covers 120 destinations: 42 domain extensions and 78 platform or registry names. Each domain extension counts as one destination. Platforms can block automated checks, so coverage does not guarantee a verdict for every result.

How does NameClaim determine availability?
Domains
NameClaim looks up domain registration through RDAP, the registry data protocol. A missing registration is an availability signal, but the registrar must confirm whether the domain can be purchased. Missing DNS records alone never mean a domain is free.
Usernames and registries
NameClaim uses a platform’s public profile pages or registry API. Page markers, response status and comparisons with missing profiles help distinguish an existing account from a missing one. These checks cannot reveal every reserved or restricted name.
Uncertain and cached results
Bot walls, rate limits, timeouts and ambiguous responses produce an unknown result, not an available or taken verdict. Some results are cached; use the verification time shown with a result and confirm on the platform before acting.
Name availability questions
- Can I check a name across multiple platforms at once?
- Yes. Enter one name in NameClaim to check supported domain extensions, social networks and developer registries together. Results are separate for each destination: a free domain does not mean the matching social handle is free.
- Is NameClaim free to use?
- The name availability checker is free to use. Domain registration and other services may have their own prices. A free check does not include purchasing a domain or registering an account.
- Does available mean I can definitely register the name?
- No. Available means the check found evidence that the name may be unused. Platforms can reserve names, impose naming rules or change availability before you register. Verify directly with the platform; a check is not a reservation.
- Why is a name’s availability unknown?
- Unknown means NameClaim could not obtain reliable evidence, for example because a platform blocked the request, timed out or returned an ambiguous page. It does not mean the name is free or taken. Check that destination manually or retry later.
- Does this check business registrations or trademarks?
- No. NameClaim checks online names, domains and handles. It does not search company registers or provide trademark clearance. Those are separate checks before adopting a business or brand name.
- What should I do if my preferred username is taken?
- Try a short, distinctive modifier related to your product or work, then check that exact variation across your priority platforms. Keep spelling consistent where possible. NameClaim’s generators can help you build a shortlist to check.
